Cashmere is a fibre, and what makes it feel the way it does is the length and fineness of the fibre rather than the name on the label. Longer fibres pill less, so the specification that matters most on a hoodie is the staple length, followed by the ply of the yarn: a two-ply yarn holds its shape at the cuff, while a single-ply yarn softens faster but collapses sooner. Knitting a zip front is a different problem from knitting a pullover, because the placket has to stay flat while the zip is sewn in. The front panels are knitted with a slightly tighter stitch count at the edge, the zip is stabilised with a strip of fusible tape before sewing, and the seam is pressed open. Without that, a knitted zip front ripples within a few wears, which is the most common failure point on this style.
