Why Choose Cotton for Your Collection?
Cotton stays the default sleepwear fiber for three practical reasons: it is comfortable against the skin, it comes in a wide range of knits and wovens, and it takes print and style development well. For a brand, that combination is usually easier to plan, cost and reorder than a specialty fiber.
Comfortable against the skin
Cotton is soft, breathable and gets softer with washing, which is why it stays the default choice for sleepwear across both warm and temperate markets.
Knits and wovens from one source
Poplin, voile, sateen, flannel and double gauze for woven styles, plus jersey, rib and waffle for knit loungewear, all developed on the same program.
Open to print and development
Reactive dye, digital and rotary print, yarn-dyed stripes and embroidery all sit well on cotton, and the construction can be reworked to suit your silhouette.
Cotton Fabric Options for Pajama Production
Fabric weight decides how the pajama behaves as much as the fiber does. Below are the cotton constructions we develop most often, with a reference weight range and the garment each suits. Fabric weights are for reference. The final composition, weight and finish are confirmed during fabric selection.
| Construction | Type | Weight (reference) | Hand feel | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cotton poplin | Woven | 110–135 gsm | Crisp, smooth, holds a sharp collar | Classic pajama sets, men's sets |
| Cotton voile | Woven | 70–90 gsm | Sheer, airy, very light | Summer nightgowns, chemises |
| Double gauze | Woven | 130–160 gsm | Soft, airy, lightly crinkled | Cami and shorts sets, baby sleepwear |
| Cotton sateen | Woven | 120–150 gsm | Smooth with a low sheen | Premium sets, bridal and gift ranges |
| Cotton flannel | Woven | 150–180 gsm | Brushed, warm, matte | Winter sets, family and holiday pajamas |
| Cotton single jersey | Knit | 150–180 gsm | Stretch, fluid, easy drape | Sleep shirts, soft loungewear |
| Cotton rib | Knit | 180–220 gsm | Elastic hand, body-hugging | Rib lounge sets, camisoles |
| Cotton waffle | Knit | 200–240 gsm | Textured, thermal, absorbent | Waffle lounge sets, robes |
Blends available alongside 100% cotton
Cotton-modal adds drape and a cooler hand for premium sets. Cotton-elastane (95/5) gives recovery in knit loungewear without losing the cotton surface. Cotton-polyester is used for men's sleep pants where durability and low shrinkage matter more than pure hand feel. Share your target price and preferred hand feel, and our team will help you compare suitable cotton blends

How a Cotton Pajama Order Runs
Six stages from brief to shipment, with a decision point at each one so nothing moves to bulk before you have approved it.

Cutting, sewing and finishing at 24–30 days for standard cotton sets, with in-line checks through the run.
- 05
Inspection & packing
Measurement audit and final inspection, then packing to your label and carton spec.
- 06
Shipping
Carton marking, shipping documents and delivery by sea or air depending on your launch date.
Quality Control on Cotton Sleepwear
Shrinkage and measurement drift are the two problems that show up most often on cotton sleepwear, so inspection starts there.
In-line checks run through the bulk and the final inspection report reaches you before shipment, not after the goods land.
Talk to a production manager- Shrinkage and measurement checked after washing, against the tolerance agreed in the order
- Colorfastness to washing and rubbing compared with your approved reference
- Seam strength and stitch density checked on load-bearing seams
- Additional testing you require, such as metal detection, agreed with you before production
- Flat measurement audit against the approved spec sheet
Inspection level and any testing requirements are confirmed with you before bulk starts, and can be written into the order contract.
Common Questions About Cotton Pajama Production
The questions brands ask before they place a first cotton order.
What is your MOQ for custom cotton pajamas?
Our standard MOQ is 100 pcs per style per color. Custom prints, yarn-dyed stripes and dedicated fabric dye lots carry their own fabric minimum, so those are quoted per design rather than per style.
Can you work with organic cotton or cotton blends?
Yes. We produce 100% cotton, organic cotton on request, and blends such as cotton-modal, cotton-elastane for stretch and cotton-polyester for men's sleep pants. Blend choice is usually driven by target retail price and the hand feel you want.
Which cotton is best for summer pajamas?
For hot and humid markets, cotton voile and double gauze are the usual picks: voile at 70–90 gsm for nightgowns and chemises, double gauze at 130–160 gsm for cami and shorts sets. Poplin works year-round and is the safer choice for a first order.
Can you develop prints and provide strike-offs?
Yes. We develop artwork into repeats, print strike-offs on the production fabric and send them for approval before bulk fabric is booked. Print development extends the sampling stage, and we confirm the revised date with you once the print method is fixed.
Do you follow our size chart or use your own?
Either. If you have a size chart we grade to it and audit against it. If not, we work from standard women's, men's, kids or baby blocks and adjust the fit during sampling.
How is cotton sleepwear priced?
Price is driven by fabric weight and construction, print method and color count, trim and label complexity, and order quantity. Send a tech pack and target quantity and we will quote against a specific fabric rather than a range.
