Custom Knit Sweater Manufacturer
KoalaPurr is a sweater manufacturer producing pullovers, cardigans, cashmere blends, sweater jackets and matched knit sets for apparel brands, retailers and private label programmes. Yarn selection, gauge, stitch development, sampling, labelling and bulk production are handled by one team, so a range can move from first swatch to repeat order without changing suppliers. Our knitwear lines run on extra-fine merino, cashmere blends, lambswool, cotton and viscose, with MOQ from 100 pieces per style.
One-Stop Sweater Manufacturing Services
Development, yarn, branding and bulk production handled under one roof, so a style can move from first idea to repeat order without changing suppliers.
Sweater Product Development
Send a tech pack, reference sample, sketch or swatch. Development is where a custom knit sweater manufacturer earns its keep: we work through gauge, yarn count, body length, shoulder drop, sleeve shape, neckline and rib depth until the fit matches your target customer.
Yarn and Fabric Sourcing
Merino, cashmere blends, lambswool, cotton, viscose and acrylic blends, sourced on yarn count, hand-feel, pilling performance and target price.
Private Label Sweaters
Woven labels, care and size labels, hang tags and packaging developed around your brand identity.
Bulk Production and QC
Approved styles move into controlled bulk knitting, linking and finishing with inline and final inspections. Bulk production runs 24 to 30 days.
Sweater Styles We Manufacture
From plain crew neck knits and cable sweaters to button-front cardigans and sweater jackets, every shape can be developed around your yarn, gauge and branding.

Style 01
Knit Sweaters
Crew neck, V neck, round neck and turtleneck pullovers in fine, mid and chunky gauges, with jersey, rib, cable and jacquard stitch options.

Style 02
Cardigan Sweaters
Button-front, open-front and wrap cardigans with ribbed plackets, patch or welt pockets and shawl or V collars. A cardigan sweater manufacturer has to hold the button stance and placket length steady across every size, which is where grading shows.

Style 03
Cashmere and Wool Sweaters
Cashmere, merino and lambswool knitwear in soft neutrals and seasonal shades. Cashmere sweater manufacturers work with a fibre that shows every fault in the yarn, so count, evenness and appearance are checked before knitting starts.

Style 04
Checkered and Patterned Sweaters
Checks, stripes, argyle and fair isle brought in through jacquard knitting or intarsia. A checkered sweater manufacturer has to match the repeat across front, back and sleeve panels, so the pattern is planned at the gauge stage rather than after the first sample.

Style 05
Sweater Jackets
Button-through and zip-through knit jackets, bomber and blouson shapes, and heavyweight coatigans. Working as an OEM sweater jacket manufacturer, we set yarn, interlining, buttons and zip specification to your brand standard.

Style 06
Sweater Sets and Matched Knits
Sweater and trouser, sweater and skirt and three-piece knit programmes cut from the same dye lot, so top and bottom stay colour matched.
Customize Your Sweater Collection
Build a knitwear range that reads as your brand rather than a catalogue.
Custom Fits and Gauges
Start from a tech pack, reference garment, swatch or sketch. Custom sweater manufacturers are usually asked to build from a full spec sheet, but you can begin with one swatch and a shape you like and work outward from there.
Yarn and Fibre Options
Choose yarn by fibre, count and season, from extra-fine merino to cashmere blends and cotton, with shrinkage and pilling checked before bulk.
Cable, Rib and Jacquard Patterns
Cable, rib, pointelle, intarsia and jacquard stitch development, planned at the gauge stage so the pattern sits correctly across every panel.
Labels and Packaging
Woven labels, care and size labels, hang tags and custom packaging, developed to keep every batch consistent with your brand.
Sweater Yarn and Specification Guide
The yarn decides how a sweater feels, washes and sells. These are the options we work with most often.
| Yarn | Gauge | Hand-feel | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Extra-fine merino | 12 to 14 gg | Soft, smooth, low prickle | Premium crew neck and V neck knits |
| Cashmere and cashmere blend | 12 to 16 gg | Light, warm, luxurious | Luxury basics and gifting ranges |
| Lambswool | 7 to 12 gg | Springy, holds stitch definition | Cable and chunky knits |
| Cotton and cotton blend | 10 to 14 gg | Cool, dry hand | Spring and summer knitwear |
| Cotton and acrylic blend | 9 to 12 gg | Resists pilling, holds shape | Core volume programmes |
| Viscose and viscose blend | 12 to 16 gg | Fluid, soft drape | Draped tops and knit co-ords |
Gauge, yarn count, shrinkage and pilling results are confirmed in writing before sampling, so you can quote and plan with confidence.

Why Brands Work With KoalaPurr
High quality knitwear is mostly decided before the first stitch. Sweater manufacturers in China that agree the yarn, the gauge and the finish up front are the ones that avoid surprises later.
Dedicated Project Coordination
Your project is followed from first enquiry through approvals and production, so feedback, updates and next steps stay clear.
Stable Supply Chain Support
Yarn, trims and hardware are booked against approved specifications, which reduces surprise substitutions once an order is running.
Clear Approval Process
Samples, measurements, colours and key construction details are signed off before bulk, so both sides work from the same reference.
Flexible Order Planning
Whether you are testing a new shape or expanding a proven style, production can be planned around different product mixes and order stages.
Reorder and Range Support
Once a style is approved, repeat orders, seasonal colour updates and matching new shapes become faster and more predictable.
Sweater Manufacturing Process
Six steps from swatch to shipment.
Design Consulting
Send your idea, reference or drawing; we review feasibility and give you an indicative quote.
Yarn Selection
Choose or source yarn by fibre, count, colour and target price.
Gauge and Pattern Making
Develop gauge, panel shapes, stitch structure and measurements, including collar, placket and rib details.
Sampling and Review
First sample knitted for fit, workmanship and design review.
Bulk Knitting and Linking
Production starts against the approved sample and confirmed specifications.
Washing, Pressing and Packing
Washing, pressing, final checking, packing and shipment preparation.
Quality Control at Every Stage
Mass production is inspected against the approved sample, not against a description.
Yarn Quality
Yarn is checked before knitting for count, evenness, shade variation and consistency with the approved lot.
Gauge and Measurement
Key measurements are compared against the approved graded size chart so fit stays consistent across the run.
Colour and Pattern Consistency
Shades, checks and pattern repeats are checked across panels before garments move to finishing.
Linking and Stitch Quality
Seams, linking, cuffs, hems, collars and plackets are inspected for neatness, strength and overall appearance.
Washing and Pressing
Handle, hand-feel and final appearance are reviewed after washing and pressing against the approved sample.
How to Compare Sweater Manufacturers
Comparing quotes from several knit sweater manufacturers? These are the points that separate a reliable supplier from a cheap one, whether you are sourcing a full cable and cardigan range or a single private label style.
Yarn composition in writing
Ask for fibre content, yarn count, shrinkage and pilling results, not just a description of the yarn. It is the single clearest signal of a high quality supplier.
Gauge and stitch consistency
A factory that knits to a stated gauge can show you the same stitch structure across every colourway and season, not just on one hero sample.
Sample-to-bulk consistency
The production run should match the approved sample in yarn, stitch and finish, not just in appearance on a photo.
Linking and finishing quality
Linking, seaming and pressing are where cheap knitwear shows. Ask who runs the machines and whether first offs are approved before bulk.
Realistic MOQ and lead time
A written sampling window and bulk production window that you can plan a launch around.
Compliance and documentation
Factory audit reports, yarn and fabric test reports and traceability for the markets you sell into.
The lowest price and the highest quality rarely come from the same quote. What you want is a sweater manufacturer whose price you can plan around and whose quality you can repeat.
Common Questions About Custom Sweaters
Q1What is your MOQ for custom sweaters?
Our standard MOQ is 100 pieces per style per colour. Mixed colour and mixed size packs can be planned within one style, and we will confirm the exact requirement against your yarn choice before sampling.
Q2Can I develop sweaters without a tech pack?
Yes. Many custom sweater manufacturers ask for a full tech pack before quoting, but you can start from a swatch, a reference garment, a sketch or a written idea. Our team will help translate it into gauge, measurements, stitch structure and construction details.
Q3How long do sweater sampling and bulk production take?
Sample development usually takes 7 to 14 days, followed by around 24 to 30 days for bulk production after the final sample is approved. Special yarns, cable work, jacquard patterns or very large orders can take longer, and we confirm the timeline before you commit.
Q4What yarns are best for high-quality sweaters?
It depends on the season and price point. Extra-fine merino at 12 to 14 gg gives a soft, low-prickle hand and works for core knitwear; cashmere and cashmere blends give warmth at a light weight for premium ranges; lambswool is springy and holds cable definition; cotton and cotton blends suit spring and summer. Whichever you choose, ask for fibre content, shrinkage and pilling results in writing.
Q5What is the difference between a sweater, a cardigan and a sweater jacket?
The body is similar; the construction is not. A pullover sweater is knitted in the round and linked at the shoulders. A cardigan adds a button placket, so front panels, button stance, placket rib and buttonhole spacing all have to be graded together. A sweater jacket is cut with the weight and shape of outerwear, which usually means heavier yarn, an interlining, a collar with more structure and sometimes a zip instead of buttons. Each option changes panel work, trim sourcing and cost, so it is worth deciding the mix before sampling.
Q6Do you also produce matched sweater sets?
Yes. Sweater and trouser, sweater and skirt and three-piece knit programmes are cut from a single dye lot so the top and the bottom hold the same shade. That matters most where the two pieces meet at the seam: sourcing the top and the bottom from different workshops is how a shade difference a customer can see on the rail creeps in. We knit and finish both from the same lot, and we can supply the top on its own if you only need the sweater.
