A cropped zip-up hoodie in cotton fleece, cut to sit above the waist with a dropped shoulder and a full-length metal zip. The hood is a two-panel shape and the front has welt pockets set at an angle rather than a kangaroo pouch, which keeps the front flat. Because the body is cropped, the ribbed hem lands at the natural waist and the sleeve is proportionally longer than on a standard hoodie. Shown in sorbet pink and buttercream; both sit on the same block and can be run in custom shades.
Fabric & Construction — Cropped Zip-Up Hoodie
A zip front on fleece is a stability problem before it is a sewing problem. Fleece is a knit, so it will stretch as the zip is fed under the foot, and a cropped body has less weight to pull the front straight afterwards. The fix is mechanical: a strip of fusible tape down the front edge, a zip that is shortened to the exact finished length rather than cut from a roll, and a top-stitch that runs on both sides of the tape. The cropped ribbed hem then has to be knitted slightly tighter than the body, or the weight of the zip will pull it open and the hoodie will flare.
