Piping on a knit is a different problem from piping on a woven. A jersey edge stretches as it is fed under the foot, so the piping cord has to be stabilised with a fusible tape along the seam before it is attached, or the placket will wave and the piping will pucker after the first wash. The piping itself is cut on the bias from a woven cotton tape rather than from the jersey, because a knit tape would ravel at the seam allowance and lose its shape. The pant is a pull-on with a covered elastic, which keeps the waist soft against the skin; the alternative, a drawcord, would add hardware this set does not need. Every panel is relaxed before cutting, and the finished set is washed so the jersey settles to its final size.
