Piping on a knit is a different construction from piping on a woven. A jersey edge stretches as it is fed under the foot, so the piping cord has to be stabilised with a fusible knit tape along the seam before it is attached; without that step the placket waves and the piping puckers at the first wash. The piping itself is cut on the bias from a woven tape rather than from the jersey, because a knit tape would ravel at the seam allowance and lose its line. The notch collar is the second pressure point: on a stretch cloth the collar has to be interfaced with a soft knit-friendly tape so the notch holds a point without the collar standing up at the neck. The pant is a pull-on with a covered elastic rather than a drawcord, which keeps the waist flat under the shirt and removes hardware from the wash cycle. Modal jersey is relaxed before cutting and the finished set is washed, so the garment arrives at its final size rather than shrinking at the customer.
