Custom Women's Modal Pajama Tee Dress with Side Slit
A sleep tee dress in a modal jersey: ribbed crew neck, dropped short sleeve, straight hem and a short side slit that lets the dress move when the wearer turns over or stands up. It is the simplest garment in the range and the hardest to get right, because there is no collar, no placket and no trim to distract from the neckline and the drop of the cloth. Modal is doing visible work here: the jersey falls from the shoulder in one line, without the stiffness a cotton tee dress has, and it keeps that drop after washing rather than going boxy. On a garment with no seams to hide behind, the ribbed neckband is the entire quality signal. The band is cut from a 1x1 rib on the bias, joined in the round, and attached with the jersey stretched slightly and the rib relaxed - done the other way, the neckline waves and the dress reads as a promotional tee. The dropped sleeve is drafted from a wider shoulder than a set-in sleeve, which removes the armhole seam and gives the silhouette its easy line; the trade-off is that the underarm has to be cut low enough that the sleeve does not pull when the arm lifts. The side slit is a mitred finish that carries its own facing, so the corner does not collapse after washing, and it is deep enough to clear the thigh without exposing anything when the wearer is standing. Modal jersey is washed after making, because a knit this fine will pull up a full size in the first wash; the dress is also relaxed before cutting so the finished knee length stays where it is specified.
